A Greenhouse Exhaust Fan is a side-wall mounted propeller or tube axial fan installed at the exhaust end of a greenhouse building — pulling hot, humid, and CO₂-rich air out through the wall while drawing in fresh cooler outdoor air (or evaporatively cooled air) through pad inlets at the opposite end.
In pad-and-fan evaporative cooling systems — the standard for commercial greenhouses in Indian climate — the greenhouse exhaust fan creates the negative pressure that draws outside air through water-saturated cellulose cooling pads. The air temperature drops by 8 to 12°C as it passes through the wet pads, providing effective summer cooling for temperature-sensitive floriculture and vegetable crops.
Vayuvents greenhouse exhaust fans are constructed with aluminium alloy blades and aluminium or FRP frame — the only materials that resist the continuous 75 to 95% relative humidity of commercial greenhouse environments without corrosion. IP55 motor enclosure prevents condensation and humidity from damaging motor windings during night temperature drops.
Automatic louvres open when the fan runs and close when stopped — preventing reverse airflow that disturbs climate control during fan staging. Thermostat controller wiring terminals are standard on all models.
Key Features & Benefits
High Free-Air Delivery
Large-diameter low-RPM impeller delivers maximum airflow per unit of power — essential for agricultural ventilation where continuous 24/7 operation must be energy-efficient.
IP55 Weatherproof Motor
IP55 TEFC motor withstands the high-humidity, ammonia-laden, and dusty environments of greenhouse and poultry farming without motor winding damage.
Thermostat Control
Thermostat and humidistat control options allow fully automatic fan operation — fans switch on/off based on temperature or humidity setpoint without manual intervention.
Corrosion Resistant
Aluminium, FRP, and PP construction options for the high-humidity and high-ammonia environments of intensive poultry and livestock housing.
Low Noise Operation
Carefully selected low-RPM motor and blade profile minimise noise — important for poultry and greenhouse environments where high noise causes animal stress.
Uniform Air Distribution
Multiple fans arranged at calculated spacing ensure uniform air movement across the full building length — eliminating hot and stagnant pockets.
Energy Efficient EC Option
EC (electronically commutated) motor option provides variable speed proportional control — reduces energy consumption by 30 to 50% compared to fixed-speed motors.
IS 3588 Compliant
Airflow performance tested per IS 3588-1987 with test certificate confirming stated ventilation performance.

The required number of fans depends on the building volume and required air change rate. For broiler poultry, 1 air change per minute (60 per hour) at peak summer is the standard — a 120 m × 12 m × 3 m broiler house (4,320 m³) needs approximately 4,320 m³/min = 2,59,200 m³/hr, requiring 6 to 8 fans of 1,200 mm diameter (each providing 35,000 to 40,000 m³/hr). Vayuvents provides free fan count and layout calculations based on your building dimensions.
Tunnel ventilation places all exhaust fans at one end gable and all air inlets at the other end — creating a high-velocity airstream along the full building length. This is more effective for bird cooling in hot climates. Cross ventilation places fans on one long wall exhausting through the opposite long wall — lower velocity but simpler ducting. Tunnel ventilation is the modern standard for commercial broiler and layer houses in India.
Poultry house environments have high humidity (60 to 90% RH), ammonia from litter (up to 25 ppm), and fine dust from feathers and litter — all of which corrode standard MS fan components. Vayuvents recommends aluminium or FRP blades and aluminium or FRP casing for poultry fans. IP55 motor enclosure prevents ammonia and dust from entering motor windings. Full aluminium or FRP cowl frames are preferred over galvanised steel in high-ammonia environments.
Yes. EC (electronically commutated) motor fans provide proportional speed control — the fan runs at exactly the speed required to maintain the setpoint temperature, rather than switching on at full speed and off completely. This provides better temperature stability, reduces energy consumption by 30 to 50%, and reduces mechanical stress from frequent start-stop cycling. Vayuvents supplies EC motor fan options for modern climate-controlled poultry and greenhouse installations.
Standard installations use a multi-stage thermostat controller that switches fan banks on in sequence as temperature rises — Stage 1 fans at 26°C, Stage 2 at 28°C, Stage 3 at 30°C, and so on. Modern climate controllers (Munters, Fancom, Skov) provide continuous proportional control of EC fans alongside pad cooling, heating, and lighting. Vayuvents fans are compatible with all standard thermostat and climate controller systems.
In tunnel ventilation systems, the total inlet area must be sufficient for the inlet air velocity to not exceed 2.0 to 2.5 m/s to avoid turbulence and dead zones. For 2,59,200 m³/hr total exhaust airflow, the required inlet area is approximately 2,59,200 / 3,600 / 2.0 = 36 m². Evaporative cooling pads are sized to this area. Vayuvents provides full inlet sizing guidance alongside fan selection.
