Mushroom Ventilator — Manufacturer & Supplier, India
Vayuvents manufactures Mushroom Ventilators for natural and forced ventilation of industrial buildings, storage tanks, and marine vessels. 200 mm to 900 mm dia, GI/Aluminium/FRP, IS 3588. Mumbai. Call +91 90961 88703.
A Mushroom Ventilator is a ventilation fitting with a dome-shaped mushroom cap that mounts over a circular roof or deck opening — providing weatherproof natural ventilation for industrial buildings, storage tanks, underground structures, and marine vessels. The mushroom cap sheds rain while allowing free airflow through the annular gap between the cap and the body.
Vayuvents manufactures mushroom ventilators in both natural (unpowered) and motorised forced-ventilation variants. Natural mushroom ventilators provide passive stack and wind-assisted ventilation — suitable for storage tank breathing vents, building background ventilation, and tank top vents on vessels. Motorised variants add an electric fan for positive forced ventilation.
Construction materials include GI (standard industrial buildings), aluminium (marine and coastal environments), FRP (chemical and corrosive atmosphere tanks and buildings), and SS304/316 (pharmaceutical, food, and very corrosive environments). The mushroom cap hinges for access to the fan and interior in motorised variants.
Throat diameters from 200 mm to 900 mm for natural units; 200 mm to 600 mm for motorised. ATEX Ex-d motor option for storage tanks handling flammable liquids.
Key Features & Benefits
Marine-Grade Construction
MS or aluminium body with marine-grade anti-corrosion epoxy + polyurethane paint, SS316 hardware — designed for the continuous salt spray of shipboard and coastal environments.
Hinged Mushroom Head
Characteristic dome-shaped mushroom head hinges open for maintenance and access — closes automatically to seal against rain, sea spray, and deckwash when stopped.
Natural + Forced Ventilation
Provides both natural ventilation (mushroom head open, fan off) for free-air exchange and forced motorised exhaust or supply when fan is running.
IP55/IP56 Motor
IP55 or IP56 sealed motor for the wet, humid, and salt-laden shipboard and coastal environment — prevents motor failure from moisture ingress.
ATEX Option
Ex-d flameproof motor and non-sparking impeller for hazardous area deck mushroom ventilators on tankers and chemical carriers.
Low Maintenance
Simple direct-drive design with sealed bearings — minimal maintenance beyond annual inspection and cleaning of mushroom head hinges.
Deck Bolt Mounting
Circular base flange with gasket seal bolts directly to ship deck, tank roof, or building roof — watertight installation without structural modification.
IMO & IS 3588 Compliant
Fan performance per IS 3588-1987; marine construction per IMO and classification society guidelines on request.

View Details →FAQs — Mushroom Ventilator
A marine mushroom ventilator is a compact axial fan in a cylindrical housing topped by a characteristic dome-shaped mushroom head — used for forced ventilation of ship tanks, cargo holds, machinery spaces, and accommodation areas. The mushroom head shape provides rain and spray protection while allowing natural ventilation airflow when the fan is not running. It is the standard ventilation fitting for small spaces and deck ventilators on commercial vessels worldwide.
Supply mushroom ventilators (blowers) push fresh air down into the space — the fan is mounted with the impeller blowing downward. Exhaust mushroom ventilators pull stale or contaminated air up and out — the fan impeller exhausts upward through the mushroom head. For a balanced ventilation system, spaces need both supply and exhaust mushroom ventilators — supply on the windward side, exhaust on the leeward side. The same unit can often be reversed for either duty.
For Class-approved vessels, mushroom ventilators may need to meet Classification Society (Lloyd's Register, DNV, Bureau Veritas, ABS, IRS) requirements for marine equipment. This typically requires type testing at an approved laboratory, verification of material certificates, and compliance with the specific ClassNK or IACS unified requirement. Vayuvents can arrange third-party testing and certification for Class-approved marine mushroom ventilators on request.
For cargo holds carrying flammable or explosive cargo (grain dust, coal dust, chemical tanker cargo vapours), ventilators must meet hazardous area requirements. Vayuvents supplies ATEX-certified Ex-d flameproof motor mushroom ventilators with non-sparking impellers for Zone 1 and Zone 2 classified cargo holds and pump rooms on tankers and chemical carriers.
For standard commercial vessel deck service: MS body with marine-grade epoxy + polyurethane topcoat paint, SS316 hardware, aluminium mushroom head. For high-humidity below-deck service: full aluminium or SS304 construction. For offshore platforms with very high salt spray: SS316L full construction. Vayuvents recommends the appropriate construction for your specific vessel and service location.
Mushroom ventilators require: (1) annual cleaning of mushroom head hinge and gasket; (2) motor bearing inspection and lubrication every 6 to 12 months; (3) paint inspection and touch-up annually where corrosion is found; (4) impeller cleaning every 6 months in dusty cargo hold service. Vayuvents recommends maintaining a spare mushroom ventilator or motor on board for immediate replacement if required.
