A Heavy Duty Floor Mounted Flameproof Exhaust Fan is an axial flow fan built on a rigid heavy-base floor-mounted frame with an IS 5572 / ATEX Group II certified flameproof (Ex-d) motor, designed specifically for extracting hazardous solvent vapours, flammable gases, and combustible dust from Zone 1 and Zone 2 classified areas under IS/IEC 60079.
Vayuvents manufactures these fans at our Vasai, Mumbai works with non-sparking aluminium or anti-static GRP impellers — eliminating ignition risk from mechanical sparking in the airstream. The motor's flameproof (Ex-d) enclosure contains any internal ignition and prevents flame propagation to the surrounding hazardous atmosphere, as required by IS 5572-2009.
Applications include automotive paint spray booths (Zone 1 inside booth), solvent storage and dispensing rooms, chemical plant processing buildings, petrochemical pump rooms, pharmaceutical solvent recovery areas, and offshore platform module ventilation — wherever a flammable or explosive atmosphere may exist and forced ventilation is required.

A flameproof exhaust fan has an Ex-d certified motor whose enclosure is designed to contain any internal ignition and prevent flame propagation to the surrounding atmosphere. It is required wherever the area is classified Zone 1 or Zone 2 under IS/IEC 60079 — paint spray booths, solvent stores, chemical processing buildings, petrochemical pump rooms, and battery charging rooms where a flammable gas or vapour atmosphere may exist.
IS 5572 is the Indian Standard for flameproof electrical equipment, published by BIS and administered by PESO (Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation). ATEX is the European directive (ATEX 2014/34/EU) for equipment in explosive atmospheres. Both require Ex-d testing but by different certifying bodies — CMRI Dhanbad or ERTL for IS 5572; DEKRA, SGS, or IECEx for ATEX. Vayuvents supplies IS 5572 certified units for Indian installations and can arrange ATEX certification for export projects.
No. Zone 2 areas require at minimum an Ex-e (increased safety) or Ex-d (flameproof) certified motor. Standard IP55 motors are not approved for any hazardous zone regardless of their enclosure rating. Vayuvents uses only IS 5572 / IEC 60079 certified flameproof Ex-d motors in all fans supplied for hazardous classified areas.
Vayuvents uses non-sparking aluminium alloy die-cast impellers as standard for all flameproof fans. Aluminium does not produce incendive sparks on contact with steel surfaces, meeting the non-sparking requirement of IS 5572 for Group IIA and IIB gas groups. For Group IIC hydrogen service, antistatic GRP (glass-reinforced plastic) impellers are used as they also eliminate electrostatic discharge risk.
Vayuvents supplies with each flameproof fan: (1) Ex-d motor flameproof certificate with certifying body reference and gas group, (2) IS 3588 airflow performance test certificate, (3) material certificates for impeller and casing, and (4) declaration of conformity to IS 5572. This documentation is required for PESO installation permit and factory inspection.
Yes. Combustible dust zones (flour, grain, wood dust, coal dust) are classified Zone 21 and 22 under IS/IEC 60079-10-2. These zones require Ex-tb or Ex-db certified equipment depending on the dust group. Vayuvents can supply fans with IP6X dust-tight enclosures and appropriate Ex certification for Zone 21/22 dust areas in flour mills, grain silos, and coal handling facilities.
