How It Works in This Application
Heat Generation in Windings
Electrical losses in the transformer core and windings heat the insulating oil circulating inside the transformer tank.
Hot Oil to Radiators
Hot insulating oil circulates to external finned radiator banks mounted on the transformer body.
Forced Air Over Radiators
Axial fans mounted below or beside the radiator banks force ambient air through the radiator fins, dramatically increasing convective heat transfer from hot oil to air.
Cooled Oil Returns to Tank
